This was today’s attempt at capturing the negative space of an object. Although the proportions aren’t exactly right, I’m much happier with how it came out than my attempt the other night. I used my pencil (in the same way that I used the kebab stick) to assess the proportions and angles too. It felt slightly less awkward, and slightly more helpful, this time. I guess it’s just practice—and feeling a bit more relaxed with nobody around. 🙂
These are some sketches I did at the little park just back from Titirangi Beach this morning. I also tried to draw a park bench (it was simple geometric shapes) but couldn’t get the perspective right and threw those drawings out in disgust. Probably could’ve got it with another couple of tries, but I was ready to go home. 🙂
Note: Click the first one to see the full sketch. I found the shapes the tree trunks created quite interesting.
I’m away from my paints at the moment, so I’m just doing sketches. I did this one on a Bockingford Sketch Pad. I found the texture a little bit off-putting, but maybe I’ll grow to like it. Possibly I need to try a different (harder) pencil.
