Since I started painting in 2019, I’ve been using plastic palettes, mainly one like this. They were OK, but the longer I had them, the harder they became to clean and work on. (I use acrylic paints, and plastic sticks to plastic.)
I recently got a New Wave glass palette. Having worked on it a couple of times now, I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a game changer.
I bought the 12×16″ grey one, so it gives me plenty of room for mixing, and the mid-grey back makes it easier to judge values.
But the best thing about it is how easy it is to clean. With a bit of water and a cloth or brush to scrub at dry paint, it comes off easily. And I have a completely clean palette for my next painting session!
Obviously, it’s not so portable, and I have to be careful not to drop it, but for painting in the studio (aka garage), it’s great. So much better than plastic.
