This was today’s attempt at capturing the negative space of an object. Although the proportions aren’t exactly right, I’m much happier with how it came out than my attempt the other night. I used my pencil (in the same way that I used the kebab stick) to assess the proportions and angles too. It felt slightly less awkward, and slightly more helpful, this time. I guess it’s just practice—and feeling a bit more relaxed with nobody around. 🙂
I went to my first ever art class on Wednesday night. I was nervous, but then, everyone else in the room (14 other students) probably was too. We’re just about all beginners.
I haven’t drawn or painted anything in about three weeks now (I’ve been getting back into running and looking for a new job), but I’m starting art classes tomorrow night, so you should see something here from me soon!
The first mark you put down on [your] canvas is the fifth one that’s there…. The first four marks are the edges of the canvas…. So, that first mark you put down had better have some relationship to those four edges.Skip Whitcomb on The Artful Painter
