Update (13/4/21): I’m working on a proper newsletter (not just a roundup of blog posts), so many of the details below will shortly change. You’ll see a post from me about it in the next day or two.
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you might remember that I have a crazy dream. Well, one of the things I’m lead to believe might help (apart from working hard to become a good painter) is a mailing list. And because mailing lists take so long to build, I thought I’d start now.
I have been using the WordPress.com subscription features, but they don’t really cut it in terms of flexibility and encouraging email signups. So I’m now using a MailerLite popup.
I’m a little conflicted about popups, because they tend to annoy people, but they’re apparently more effective in gaining email subscriptions. So, I’ve tried to set it up in such a way as to not be too annoying.
Anyway, long story short, I’d love it if you’d sign up.
I know that many of you probably prefer to follow WordPress.com blogs in Reader, and I totally understand that. (I prefer it too.) But if you’re happy to drop that and just receive a weekly email, or have both (if you’re a sucker for punishment), I’d really appreciate it.
At the moment, I’ll just be sending a weekly roundup of blog posts, but in the future I might develop the email into something more.
A few things to note:
- You need to visit my site in your browser to see the popup.
- The popup on the home page takes 5 seconds to appear.
- I ask for a first name in the form because it’s just so much easier to communicate personally with people when you have that. If you feel more comfortable entering a nom de plume, that’s OK too.
- There’s also a popup on my Subscribe page, which appears immediately. Ideally it would’ve just been an embedded form, but WordPress.com doesn’t currently support embedding Mailerlite forms, so the popup is a workaround.
Whether you sign up or not, thanks for reading and for your support!
