
I did this sketch in preparation for a painting I’m going to do. (I wanted to practise drawing the lamp.) This is my reference photo.
I used a Tombow Mono 6B to do the sketch. Beautiful pencil—both to use, and how it looks. Pretty reasonably priced for the quality too.
Ah yes, you need a decent, soft pencil for this. I have used a 4B for a pencil drawing of my daughter this summer. It’s about 2 inches long (the pencil) and keeps getting lost!

Yeah, still experimenting with different grades. I plan to try those carbon pencils you mentioned.

Yes do, they work well on wet too. I only learnt about them fairly recently. I have 3 and I cab normally lay my hand on one when needed!

When you say wet, you mean over say watercolour? Or acrylic?

Watercolour or I just wet the paper when I’m sketching. Gives a very sharp, dark line.

Ah, right. I got the same effect with my daughter’s watercolour pencils. Pretty cool.
