I haven’t drawn or painted anything for the last few weeks because I’ve been working on setting up a little business. I thought it was time to have another crack, so here it is.
It doesn’t look much like the exercise in my acrylics starter kit. That’s partly due to me using a canvas rather than a watercolour board (for wet mixing), but also struggling to translate the tiny photo in the book—and the step examples, which interpret the photo differently than I would—into the desired result. I’m starting to think that I’d be much better off ditching the kit and just painting from life.
The shading is probably the place where I’ve gone most wrong in this one, but also my colour mixing. Although, with that, I think the crappy little tubes of cheap paint in the kit don’t help.
I’ve got a lot to learn, and I nearly threw this one out to begin with, but as I got further in I enjoyed mixing the colours and experimenting with a few techniques. So it wasn’t all bad.
